Automation using Chat Bots with systems like Slack and GitHub Archive: https://archive.sweetops.com/chatops/

Does anyone know of a Slack bot implementation that can execute bash scripts remotely?

n/m, writing a bot seems simple enough

So what do you people use?

I like Errbot - seems easy enough

looked at https://www.yellowant.com/ yesterday - but they seem to do a lot of marketing around solving problems Errbot has, but once I started looking deeper they really don’t

https://github.com/opsdroid/opsdroid seemed interesting given natural language processing plugin….

Today I played with zappier. Now don’t get me wrong, this is a big hack - but it’s awesome for prototyping workflows like this

I used the Slack integration to listen for messages to a #test channel that contain deploy version. then i filter for messages by a authorized user @erik. then I format the message and extract version 1.2.3 and stage production. then I call a webhook and pass that information. then I send a slack message with those fields as a response to the slack channel.

my biggest gripe is the round-trip time is ~20 seconds, so it doesn’t feel snappy

Erik Osterman

@ looks like yellowant is similar to zappier but with more of chatops slant, right?

sounds like it

they also seem to be spamming https://www.reddit.com/r/chatops/ quite a lot - so I ruled out reddit as source of reliable information

r/chatops

r/chatops: ChatOps, a term coined by GitHub, is an approach to managing technical and business operations through a group chat room.

We are also potentially looking at VictorOps, but not sure if they are as customizable as Zapier/other bots would be

What we do is pretty complicated. A big driver for us next year will be simplification

Erik Osterman

I think a combination of gitops tied with chatops will lower the bar for other members of an organization to contribute
