Interesting article on how Fox does super-heavy live streaming, e.g. the Superbowl: https://techinsiders.substack.com/p/all-streaming-is-not-created-equal It’s written at a medium-high level, they don’t mention “data plane” vs “control plane” type of considerations, but they do talk about Bob’s Burgers so it’s all good.
A deeper dive into the nuances and challenges of live streaming

Good morning SweetOps! Is this channel a good place to ask questions about some install trouble I’m seeing with the CloudPosse docker integration? Or should I resort to a github issue?
(Decided to file an issue: https://github.com/cloudposse/packages/issues/896)
Found a bug? Maybe our Slack Community can help. Our docker images are failing to build. Our dockerfile includes the following lines from the readme: # Add package repo for chamber ADD https://apk….
Thanks for pointing this out! #packages is probably the best place, but for P0 problems like this ping me directly is okay!

Our friend Corey posts a curated DevOps Industry Updates article every month or so: https://corey.tech/DevOps-Industry-Updates-19/ Links about SolarWinds hack, scaling K8s to 7500 nodes, how to learn stuff, a bunch of security-related articles.
Welcome back! Much like your favorite memestock, the world of DevOps has been moving at breakneck speeds. While the InfoSec community is still realizing the true depths of the SolarWinds hack, a new vulnerability with a different attack vector appears: NAT slipstreaming 2.0. We cover those hot topics and other key developments right here in DevOps Industry Updates - all you need to do is scroll
@Corey Gale does a great job curating this and i frequently check it out before #office-hours

Wondering if anyone here has any experience with observe. Their video demo is pretty nifty, and they seem to have a better approach to data visualization than other observability platforms (I’m mostly comparing to NewRelic/CloudWatch, I have limited experience with DataDog). I was also informed by a sales rep that a terraform provider is at the top of their roadmap.

Anyone have a diagramming tool they like? I’d like to draw a few high level diagrams of some infrastructure and terraform modules for an open source project. So
• preferably Linux but Windows could do
• doesn’t have to be fancy just boxes, connectors, some colors, text, alignment, moving boxes should move the links
• unlimited number of diagrams
• diagram *not* saved in cloud (although saving in github, like gitbooks does for web pages, would be fine).
• Diagrams could be created programmatically (Python, js eg), that’s ok too. I’ve seen (and used several) like powerpoint, lucidchart, creately, draw.io, gliffy, visio, smartdraw, google draw, libreoffice (huge) etc, but the free tiers - if they have them - have ridiculously low number of documents (3-5) or they are online.
Draw architecture diagrams in the browser declaratively.
Generate diagrams for your cloud architecture using code - dedalusj/cloudgram
Diagram as Code for prototyping cloud system architectures - mingrammer/diagrams
Here are some more examples.
@Andriy Knysh (Cloud Posse) I was doing diagrams as code with latex tikz but that python diagram lib looks very slick I think I will switch to that. Thanks for pointing it out
I did not use it myself, it was just posted in one of the channels, but yes, they look nice and using Python is nice too
Thanks @Andriy Knysh (Cloud Posse) both look very promising. Funny because I remember seeing Diagrams a couple months ago and forgot about it. Also funny that cloudgram is inspired (according to its author) by Diagrams project!
if you are willing to get your hands dirty with some manual styling, you could use plantuml or nomnoml. they are both very generic, but you can create styles for different types of elements, then compose your diagrams as usual.
@Andriy Knysh (Cloud Posse) I tried out that python diagrams it is pretty good but like plantuml (which is also good) but they are both based on graphviz layout which doesn’t always layout things as cleanly as you would like. These tools are very good for quick diagrams but for something with more polish I prefer things like TikZ https://www.overleaf.com/learn/latex/TikZ_package, asymptote https://asymptote.sourceforge.io/ or metapost https://www.tug.org/metapost.html these diagram as code language tools give much better control/power over the layout. TikZ being my preffered way to make these aws architecture diagrams
An online LaTeX editor that’s easy to use. No installation, real-time collaboration, version control, hundreds of LaTeX templates, and more.
Asymptote, a powerful descriptive vector graphics language for mathematical/technical drawing, with LaTeX typesetting of labels
draw.io has an offline version i think
Releases Notes for 14.4.3 Windows Installer Windows No Installer macOS - Intel macOS - ARM Linux - deb, snap, AppImage or rpm Google Chrome OS Windows intel x32 releases are marked -ia32- ChangeLog…
and can save to github (or local)
Right on, good to know. I also found out that one can use draw.io web version without an account, then there are no limits to how many docs you can create with it (makes sense given the desktop version).
