Hello everybody! Tire of the commute? Longing for four-day-weeks and a flexible schedule? We’re looking for project-based contractors!

We’re a small band of extremely experienced Kubernetes experts who help our clients with the most difficult of distributed systems problems. Beside integrating cloud-native systems, we often develop production-grade code to solve unusual requirements.

We’ve always been 100% remote (GMT-4 through GMT-8 only), practice transparent salaries (between $960 and $1,200/day, 4 days per week), and (if I may say so myself) have an outstanding culture. If you’re interested, please do read on!

Join us ...as a Kubernetes engineering contractorattachment image

Enjoy a four-day workweek and all the flexibility you want as a 1099 engineer.

It is disconcerting that despite the widespread discourse on globalized and fully remote work environments, there appears to be a pronounced concentration of opportunities primarily within the confines of the United States and Europe. Regrettably, engineers residing in other regions of the world seem to face a notable dearth of prospects. This situation underscores the imperative for a more equitable and inclusive approach to talent acquisition and resource allocation within the tech industry. To truly embody the global and remote work ethos, it is incumbent upon organizations to proactively seek out and offer opportunities to engineers residing in diverse geographic locales. This strategic shift not only broadens the talent pool but also contributes to the establishment of a more balanced and globally representative workforce, fostering innovation and diversity in the process.

These are purely my views. Please do not bombard with you responses if you happen to disagree

the realities of global law (there isn’t one) simply makes it hard to for many companies to hire globally. tax law is seriously complex and business law is another pile of drek on top of that.

even in the US businesses might have to establish a business in each state they want to hire employees in. (it’s complicated, but this is a super simplificiation of it), and file quarterly and monthly paperwork in _each state).

in other countries this is compounded - they may have to have a business entity and business license in each country, or each city. they may have to carry different types of non-overlapping insurances, have different health care and retirement benefit plans, etc. and some of those plans may have rules that make it impossible to have a non-overlapping plan.

you might think “well, just hire us as contractors instead of employees” - but it’s still not that simple. you’d have to do all of the business setup - and even then, you might not pass an employee/contractor test if you only work for this one business, and that could mean the business who hired you finds themselves in legal/tax hot water in your country.

it would be great if we could come to a single unified set of rules for this, but that’s pretty unlikely any time soon.

some companies make this a first class citizen and just absorb the cost. other companies just ignore the vagaries of the many laws and just do it anyway and hope they don’t get caught. (or hope that pleading ignorance will work).

other companies hire through 3rd parties for this type of thing (so contract to the 3rd party who actually hires you).

but none of this is simple.

sorry, there is no entry level in devops world any more, companies will assume one has enough resources to become an experienced team player before getting him onboard

What have you done in the past 9 months? What have you learned/deployed?

I would recommend adding these items to your pitch above.
