anyone use slack workflows?
we do at Hulu
they’re great
different teams use them for different purposes. my fave team so far was to slackbot back at the users across various workflows some confluence docs, to help them self service
Slack workflows would be amazing if they could trigger outgoing webhooks.
But without that, their utility seems very limited. We tried for a little bit using it for async standups.
@Erik Osterman (Cloud Posse) that is exactly the next question i was going to ask. we have slack workflows currently but i need them to trigger a webhooks to auto-create jira tickets. was digging and could not find anything about it
yea, exactly what I wanted!
I want customers to use a workflow in one of our shared channels to submit work orders, that then trigger a webhook in zapier. Then using Zapier we implement the real workflows that create issues, notify engineers, etc.
I contacted their support and they said they don’t support it yet.
whats weird to me is they already have the feature to create slack workflows off of webhooks. for me i feel like there is very minimal subset of use cases for a created slack workflow to be the “end result” of an automated task. but possible was super low LOE to add that feature. :P
I could think of a hundred ways that I’d use outgoing webhooks
any any incoming webhook workflow I could already achieve with Zapier.
the workflow automation is nice because it’s tightly integrated with the slack UI. but without it being able to talk to thirdparty services, it’s not helping us with any freggin workflows.
(one hack I was considering was creating another channel just for the messages and using a Zap to parse those messages - but it seems so wrong, that I stopped)
@Erik Osterman (Cloud Posse) i feel ya and i feel the same exact way
